Sudoku is a logic based number placement puzzle. Kind of like a
crossword puzzle except that instead letters Sudoku uses numbers from
1 to 9. And instead of written clues you have some of the numbers
filled in for you to get you started. These are called "givens" the rest is
then up to you to figure out the logical placement of the numbers until
every square is full. The puzzle consists of
nine squares within each section of a larger nine squares The larger squares
are sometimes referred to as a "zone" or "region" as the example to the
right
shows there are nine zones, and each zone has nine squares within it.
The object is to place numbers 1 to 9 in each of the small squares within a
zone. You cannot have two of the same number in a zone. Also you cannot have
two of the same number appearing on the same line either horizontally,
or vertically through out the zones

Sudoku has a varied following.
It is played by children from about age 6, adults, academics, business
executives, teachers, passengers, on planes, trains, boats, and students
etc. There really are no bounds. You may have
seen the print version of Sudoku in your favourite newspaper,
magazine, or even bought printed Sudoku puzzle books yourself for the
challenge.
There are many competitions through the world where
Sudoku players try to eliminate their competition for prizes.
Sudoku is a great game, that is very
addictive. Because it is a logic game it increases your aptitude, and Sudoku
is sometimes recommended by teachers as a good exercise in "logic
reasoning". For older people it may help stave off the onset of dementia,
and Alzheimer's since it keeps the brain active.
