Introduction

The best way to tell you about the author is to hear it from her own lips:

Why did I, Jan McDonald, start Learn-a-lot Publications?
Having designed hundreds of hands-on activities and booklets for myself and my teaching colleagues for over 20 years, I decided to publish. I wanted to design materials that:

  • fulfill the need for comprehensive, sequential skill development.
  • use approved teaching techniques as supported by research.
  • are affordable and effective tools that are classroom tested.

The result -----> the Learn-a-lot® Series with the motto...Students learn a lot and have fun, too!

For 25 years Jan has used her reading specialty to teach her students the joy of reading and to create a world of wonder through books.   She believes that every child:
  • needs a solid foundation in phonemic awareness
  • needs lots of opportunities to read, read, read

Each Learn-a-lot® workbook has:

  • dozens of make and take activities.
  • a variety of different formats so students are never bored.
  • a hands-on, multi-sensory approach for longer, better learning.
  • great art by a talented artist, Raymond Boyer.

  • progresses from reading single words to reading words in context.
  • a scope and sequence for continuous learning.
  • a patterned approach to teach sounds, words and sentences.
  • complete, ready-to-use sets of reproducible activities that can be photocopied or laminated.
